Being the only one among the seven ros\u00e9s in the \u00a315-\u00a320 price category to win a gold medal that was not produced in Provence only adds to the significance of the distinction.
\r\nJudge Tim Jackson MW even made particular mention of the fascinating ros\u00e9 grown by the iconic wine estate in Florina region, Greece, as seen in the opening lines of the result-announcing piece titled \u201cFabulous wines\u201d: \u201cWhat was exciting was when we saw something a little bit different. It has a certain Nebbiolo character, but in its own style, as it should be. There are some fabulous wines being made in Greece, if you know where to look, and if they get out of the country. Xinomavro can be an exceptional grape variety. I was very pleasantly happy, not surprised, that it was a Greek wine, because it is an endorsement of what we know is going on in Greece.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\r\nOther notable highlights in the same category were Provence’s By Ott Ros\u00e9 from Domaines Ott, Famille Sumeire\u2019s Ch\u00e2teau Coussin, also from Provence, and rocker Jon Bon Jovi\u2019s first attempt at a ros\u00e9 in collaboration with Languedoc winemaker G\u00e9rard Bertrand; all received gold medals.<\/p>\r\n
\r\nThe Drinks Business Global Ros\u00e9 Masters is a competition open to all styles of ros\u00e9s from around the globe. Close to 200 entries were judged blind in this year\u2019s event by a panel of highly experienced tasters.<\/p>\r\n
\r\nThe finest among them received medals ranging from Bronze to Gold, while the Master medal \u2013the most prestigious of the awards\u2013 was reserved for the most outstanding wines featured in the tasting event.<\/p>\r\n
\r\nJudges tasted the wines over the course of one day in London\u2019s Pimlico on 19 April.
