Free draining, stony soils typify the Rapaura and Renwick areas whilst Fairhall and Brancott are predominantly aged alluvial loams containing some clay. The majority of fruit was grown on a vertical shoot positioned (VSP) trellis with three canes laid down. Average sauvignon blanc yields were 7 tonnes\/hectare.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Vinification \/ Ageing:<\/strong> Fermentation mainly took place in inox tanks, though a small percentage of the must was fermented at a higher temperature in old French oak barriques. In spite of yields being lower than expected, the resulting wines were blended according to stringent criteria.
