Patrón became successful because its producers responded to the market`s need for an ultra-premium tequila – a category that was actually invented and instantly embraced by consumers no earlier than 1989, when Patrón, the first ultra-premium tequila, was first launched. From the very beginning, Francisco Alcaraz`s artisanal method for producing Patrón not only required the use of 100% Weber blue agave, but also incorporated a century-old technique known as Tahona. According to this technique, agave fibres are slowly crushed using a large circular grinder made of volcanic stone, before the juice is fermented and distilled along with the added agave fibres.
The entire manufacturing process takes place in the privately-owned Hacienda Patrón, which is exclusively dedicated to the manufacture of this specific tequila. Every single part or stage of the process is no less than exemplary – from the environmentally friendly reverse osmosis watering system to the recycling of the agave by-product. The people involved, however, are by far the most important element. It takes 60 people to carry out the entire procedure, as every single task is performed manually, starting from the careful collection of only the best-quality agave core, and finishing with the manufacture of the bottles, each of which is numbered and unique. It is quite telling that the bottle has been designed by a Mexican artist specialising in glass objects, so that it is, in its own right, a work of art as valuable as its content.
Patrón is now available in more than 100 countries all over the globe and the top-selling super premium tequila in the US. In spite of being one of the fastest-growing spirit labels in the world, the manufacturing process – as invented and perfected by its maker – remains unaltered, so as to ensure the highest quality.
The range available in Greece includes PATRON SILVER and GRAN PATRON PLATINUM, as well as the aged PATRON ANEJO, PATRON REPOSADO and GRAN PATRON BURDEOS, while the range of ultra-premium liqueurs made with Patrón tequila includes PATRON XO CAFE COFFEE LIQUEUR and PATRON XO DARK COCOA LIQUEUR.
